|OUR BUNK COUNSELORS
are energetic, creative, fun and responsible people with a passion for theater and education. Many of our counselors are college students pursuing their degrees in theater, arts, or education. Our counselors are mentors, role models, and friends to our campers. They are a part of every aspect of camp and we are lucky to have such dedicated and passionate counselors.
The counselor’s primary responsibility is to take care of his or her campers. Additionally, counselors participate in our evening activities,
|assist in the scene and costume shops, and teach theater-related workshops. Counselors are often seen during downtime playing catch with campers, or helping them memorize lines for the next rehearsal. The Staff Talent Show is a camp favorite and allows the campers to see the talents of their bunk counselors!
Background checks are conducted on all of our new staff members and each staff member is required to fill out the mandatory health forms as per the American Camping Association, of which we are accredited.
Two or three counselors live in each bunk with ten to twelve campers.
Bunk counselors ages range from 19 – 27.
While a majority of our bunk staff comes to us from New York or Vermont, this year we have counselors representing New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, California and Texas.
Bunk counselors help create and facilitate some of our most exciting activities:
- Harry Potter Night, the Acting Manitou Prom, Ping-Pong Tournament and Gotcha!
60% of our counselors were once Acting Manitou campers!
Our counselors are also crucial to our productions as their roles range from stage managing a production to running the light board to building props.
Each session we have one day dedicated to counselor lead workshops. These are favorites among our campers and have included Drumming, Environmental Theater, Filmmaking, Clowning and Juggling.
70% of our staff are returning staff members!
