Broadway’s Finest come to Camp!

Fifteen years ago Acting Manitou began as a collaboration between Steve Borowka and Tim Brownell, friends who met at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton and brought their skills as actors (Steve had recently starred in Beauty and the Beast on Broadway) and theater educators to the lakes and hills of Maine. Today, in 2017, our staff has grown to encompass some of the finest artists, teachers and theater practitioners from around the country. We work diligently to bring the highest level of talent to Acting Manitou to work with our campers. This summer we are so pleased to have these members of our creative staff direct from Broadway stages.

Margot de la Barre previously directed Chicago and Anything Goes and this summer brings the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic Cinderella to life for the Acting Manitou community.  She has appeared on Broadway in South Pacific, Evita, Anything Goes, Irving Berlin's White Christmas, and Promises, Promises. She has performed on three Tony Awards telecasts, Good Morning America, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, The Late Show with David Letterman, and The View. She was also part of NBC's Sound of Music Live! starring Carrie Underwood and toured the country in The Boy Friend directed by Dame Julie Andrews.

Christian Delcroix comes to Acting Manitou direct from Broadway's The Book of Mormon. Previous Broadway credits include South Pacific at Lincoln Center, Follies with Bernadette Peters and the National Tour of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. At Acting Manitou, Christian puts his fearless approach to theater to practice teaching classes in acting, musical comedy and improvisation.

Adam Fleming joins us in 2017 as the one of our resident choreographers and dance teachers. Last summer, Adam taught master classes in Broadway Rep featuring choreography from Wicked, a show he opened in Chicago and subsequently performed in on Broadway. Adam's also performed on Broadway in the original company of Hairspray with Harvey Fierstein and in the off-Broadway favorite, Bare: A Pop Opera.

Amanda Phelan was a camper at Acting Manitou for 5 years, and has been a choreographer at camp since 2014. She received her BFA in Acting from NYU Tisch and works as a choreographer and actor in New York. She is currently the assistant-choreographer on Amelie on Broadway. Amanda recently assistant-choreographed Pretty Filthy (Civilians) at Abrons Arts Center , performing in The Wolves by Sarah DeaLappe and created and starred in her own piece called For Claude.

These are but a few of the amazing artistic and camp staff coming to Acting Manitou in the summer of 2017. Everyone who works at Acting Manitou believes strongly that creating theater as a community is integral to our society and our world. We are very grateful to be able to bring outstanding experiences to all of our campers and their families because of the incredible staff who choose to spend their summers at Acting Manitou!
